United States approves funds for the relief of floods in Pakistan: first at ABC

The State Department has approved funds to address the consequences of mortal floods in Pakistan, marking the first assistance of its kind to be authorized under the second Trump administration.

“The United States meets the people of Pakistan, whose lives have been uprooted by generalized and catastrophic floods. On September 5, the United States Department of State approved a monetary response to deliver food, shelters and other forms of disaster relief that come out lives to impacted communities,” said a press release seen for the first time by ABC News.

“We are prepared to coordinate with the Pakistan government and reliable help organizations in the field to provide help to the most affected areas,” said a state department spokesman.

The State Department has not revealed how much money has dedicated to flood recovery efforts.

The central command of the US Army. UU. It also delivered an initial shipment of “Urgent Assistance and Savior of Life to Pakistan” after immediate floods, according to a statement issued above.

The Trump administration has been previously criticized for making dramatic cuts to foreign assistance, including the USAID lock, the agency that would normally be accused of coordinating the United States response to a natural disaster in a foreign country.

Jeremy Lewin, a senior official who performs the duties of under Secretary of Foreign Assistance, Humanitarian Affairs and Religious Freedom in the Department, promoted assistance for Pakistan as a success story for the Trump administration approach.

“Our rapid support for the close ally of the United States, Pakistan, offers another example of the efficiency and effectiveness of the new integrated abilities of integrated foreign assistance from the State Department, ABC News of the United States Department of State,” Lewin told ABC News.

“Within 72 hours, the department was able to deploy disaster response personnel from the United States government, schedule a new assistance to help more than 300,000 people affected and coordinate military deliveries from critical aid supplies,” he added.

Pakistan has experienced a series of mortal floods during the summer monzón season, but a new flood of heavy rains in early September intensified the humanitarian crisis.

According to Pakistan officials, more than 1.3 million have been displaced by devastating floods and hundreds have been killed.

“As Americans, we understand this devastation and we will contribute to the relief of disasters that save lives that will deliver food and shelters to communities impacted throughout Pakistan,” said Bethany Poulos Morrison, officer of the State Department of State for the South and Asian Affairs Office of the South and Central.
