Israel-Gaza live updates: Trump says he could go to Middle East as negotiations continue

Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said negotiations are progressing “very well” and signaled he could travel to the Middle East this weekend.

“We have a great team there, great negotiators, and unfortunately there are great negotiators on the other side as well. But it’s something I think will happen. I have a good chance of it happening. Maybe I’ll go there sometime toward the end of the week. Maybe Sunday, actually, and we’ll see,” Trump said during a roundtable discussion.

“But there is a good chance that the negotiations will go very well,” he added.

When later asked where he would go, Trump said, “Most likely Egypt,” adding, “That’s where everyone is gathered right now.”

Following the roundtable, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that Trump is “considering going to the Middle East shortly after” his annual checkup at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday.

The president said he was late to the roundtable because he said he was on a phone call with “Middle Eastern people, Arab people and others about the possible Middle East peace agreement.”
